Ripple is a technology company that provides solutions to global money transfer through blockchain technology. It is currently the top project that works on payment system using blockchain technology. Ripple solves a number of issues surrounding global money transfer, such as high transaction fees when dealing with multiple financial institutions, slow processing time, transparency when dealing with large sum of money and liquidity of currencies. This is done through RippleNet and On-Demand Liquidity. RippleNet connects financial institutions and enables them to transfer money securely, instantly and reliably with negligible fees. Money transfer also face issues in terms of liquidity where the institutions are required of pre-funding to enable the transfer of different assets. This problem is solved through On-Demand Liquidity where XRP becomes the medium of payment for the exchange. 

XRP is the token for Ripple On-Demand Liquidity. It is used mainly as a medium of payment, and exchange between two different currencies with 3-5 seconds settlement time and without any intermediaries. XRP transactions are validated one the XRP Ledger using the Consensus Mechanism, without any rewards for participants. XRP is not mined, and was created with a maximum supply of 100 billion XRP, 80 billion of which has been transferred to Ripple.
