Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is the result of Bitcoin hard fork in 2017. It is an open source protocol that aims to improve the scalability issue that happened in Bitcoin. It runs on the same mechanism as Bitcoin, which is Proof-of-Work (PoW), and allows users to mine using common GPUs. This mechanism allows anyone to mine on the network, instead of being monopolized by ASICs.
