Axie Infinity: Play to Earn Online Game
Axie Infinity is a popular blockchain game inspired by the Pokémon and Tamagotchi game series. The game allows players to collect different digital pets known as Axies. These Axies can be raised, battled and traded in the marketplace.
As of November 2021, Axie Infinity has more than 2 million daily active users and will soon approach 3M. By active daily participation, the Philippines is the top country that reaches up to 40%. Due to the pandemic, many unemployed people discovered this game and other NFT games to earn income.
There are two main tokens used in this game:
AXS is the original governance token of Axie Infinity and currently, players can use AXS to pay Axies’ breeding fees. Players can also earn AXS as prizes in organized tournaments.
Formerly known as Small Love Potion.
SLP is a token that can be earned by players through the game and used to breed new Axies.
Both AXS and SLP are ERC-20 tokens that can be traded on the Ethereum network.
Each Axie is unique and represented by the ERC-721 NFT token.
Each Axie has four stats: Health, Morale, Skill and Speed. These stats play an important role in Axie’s battle mode and depend on two things: Axie’s class and Axie’s body parts.
Each Axie has a class and each class has its own strengths and weaknesses against the other classes. There are 9 classes: Aquatic, Beast, Bird, Bug, Plant, Reptile, Dawn, Dusk dan Mech.
For example, an Axie uses a Plant card to attack Bird Axie will deal extra damage of 15%. On the other hand, 15% of damage will be reduced if an Axie uses a Bird card to attack Plant Axie. The class also can affect the stat that Axie has.
Axie consists of six body parts namely back, ears, eyes, horns, mouth and tail. The back, horns, mouth and tail determine the cards used by Axie in battle. Each body part can add Axie stats based on body part class. For instance, if the Plant Axie has a back card from Reptile class, it gains additional stats of 3 HP + 1 Speed.

Axie’s battle system is a turn-based card game that aims to eliminate all enemies faced by Axie’s team. The team consists of three Axies. In each turn, players must play cards strategically to maximize their chances of winning. Axie Infinity has two battle modes namely Adventure and Arena.
Players will battle with monsters in each level known as Ruin to gain experience (EXP) and level up the Axies. There are 36 Ruins in this mode and the player who wins in the battle will earn SLPs based on the Ruin played by them. Currently, players can earn up to 50 SLP per day.
Players will battle with other players according to rating or known as Matchmaking Rating (MMR). By doing PvP, players have chances to increase their MMR and earn more SLPs when they win in this battle. On the other hand, if they lose, their MMR will decrease and no SLP is rewarded. The SLPs are earned based on MMR. If the MMR is below 800, they will not earn SLP, instead the players can increase their MMR.
Axies can also be bred to produce Axies that have rare and powerful combinations. Each Axie can only be bred up to seven times in order to control the population of Axies. Each breeding requires SLP as a breeding cost which varies according to the breed number and 0.5 AXS as a breeding fee. Let’s say players want to breed their Axies for the first time. First time breeding will cost 900 SLP per parent. The breeding cost can increase up to 15,300 SLP at the seventh (final) breeding stage.
In Axie Infinity, there are five types of land; Savannah, Forest, Arctic, Mystic and Genesis. This land can be purchased at the marketplace and used as Axies’ residence. In future, players are able to develop this land using the resources and materials that can be obtained while playing this game.
Players generate income in Axie Infinity in the form of AXS and SLP that can be earned via Adventure mode, Arena mode and Daily Quests. In addition, players can also participate in tournaments or esports organized by organizations that offer lucrative prizes in the form of AXS, ETH, virtual land and many more.
Download a Metamask wallet and load some ETH. Players need to download a Ronin wallet and deposit ETH into Ronin. Then, players also need to have a minimum of 3 Axies as a team by purchasing the Axies in the marketplace or earning through an Axie Infinity Scholarship.
At the time of this writing, the average cheapest price for three Axies is around USD 613, where this price is cheaper than the beginning of August which was around USD 1,300. However, the price of the Axie depends on Axie’s body parts, abilities and skills. The higher the abilities and skills of Axie, the higher the price for an Axie.
The economy of Axie Infinity is growing rapidly due to the fact there are hundreds of thousands of players playing to generate income until the scholarship is formed. Generally, players who have many Axies (known as Managers), lend three Axies to Scholars. Scholars will then use these three Axies to earn income in the forms of SLP, AXS or both. The income will be divided between the Scholars and the Manager at the rate sets out in the agreement.
